Policy, Advocacy and Community Engagement

AVEA represents the veterinary, scientific and environmental perspective in government submissions, parliamentary briefings and public debate. When governments make decisions that affect animals and the environment, we aim to make sure the evidence — and the experience of the people working on the front line — is part of the conversation.

Our positions are led by the evidence: rigorous science combined with the real-world experience of vets, vet nurses, animal-health specialists, farmers and the scientists who advise us. We bring a perspective no one else does — the people who see, firsthand, how environmental pressures affect the health and welfare of animals, and the industries and communities that depend on them.

AVEA is strictly non-partisan. We don’t align with any political party. We support policies that protect Australia’s animals, environments and related industries, and we call out decisions that damage them — regardless of who’s making them. That also means we take clear positions on the issues the evidence points to, including the environmental decisions and developments that put animals and ecosystems at risk.

Our ambassadors and members are also regular voices in the media on the issues that matter — from climate impacts on wildlife and livestock to sustainability in veterinary practice. You can follow our latest media coverage and announcements on our News page, by signing up to our newsletter, and by following us on social media.

AVEA has set out policy priorities the Australian Government must adopt to ensure a world where animals and people thrive in a healthy climate, which can be accessed at the link below.
