GUEST SPEAKERS

Special guest speakers, one focussing on mitigation (=emission reduction) and one on adaptation (=responding to extreme weather)

Dr Laurie Steinier  BSc BVMS MANZCVS (Anaesthesia and Analgesia)

Veterinary Operations Manager, Companion Animal and Equine for Zoetis

Isofluorane anaesthetic gas is a significant greenhouse gas and can be responsible for up to 10 tons of carbon emissions per year in a small animal practice.

Emissions reduction is about systems review, and by reviewing your entire system of anaesthesia to reduce emissions practices can deliver a much better standard of care, benefit from financial savings and a renewed enthusiasm for anesthesia.

Zoetis has just released it sustainable anaesthesia series which is a comprehensive FREE online webinar series to help practitioners safely and confidently make the transition to sustainable anesthesia.

Dr. Anne Fowler BVSc MANZCVS

Dr Fowler runs the Adelaide Bird and Exotics Vet Centre and is experienced in managing wildlife care in emergency situations. With a record El Nino weather event this year breaking temperature records around the world,  this summer in Australia may present an increase in extreme weather events, particularly bush fires.

Many veterinary practices particularly those in rural areas and on the urban fringe of major cities could be exposed to a bushfire emergency.

How can your practice prepare for such events and how do you make decisions when presented with injured wildlife?

Dr Fowler will provide you with some key takehomes that will help you manage these situations.
